ClearRoute Recognises and Works to Address the Risks of Unconscious Bias Through Specialist Inclusivity and Leadership Training

Lifting the lid on unconscious actions and perspectives that can often hinder and limit the search for talent.

At ClearRoute, inclusivity and fairness are at the heart of our team. We are a global organisation constantly on the lookout for incredible people to solve complex problems together. To do this, we need to ensure our recruitment process is completely objective and that managers and leaders have the tools and skills to ensure the hiring process is smooth, inclusive and a totally level playing field.

That’s why we recently enlisted the insights and expertise of the incredible Emma Cumming, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and D&I Inspirational Leader of 2023, to lead unconscious bias training for our interview teams across Australia, Bulgaria, India, and the UK.

As a leader with a proven commitment to fostering inclusive cultures, Emma specialises in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Wellbeing, and Organisational Development. Passionate about driving sustainable change across global organisations, her focus is on shifting policies and practices, broadening awareness and fostering human connections to enhance business outcomes and team success.

Emma’s session was completely eye-opening. Our team delved into the nuances of unconscious bias, reflected on their own biases, and tackled real-life scenarios to develop actionable strategies. The goal? To ensure every candidate gets a fair shot by seeing everyone’s potential and credentials irrespective of our own unconscious perspectives and experiences. Ultimately, if the talent is there and the fit is right, the door is open.

We’re committed to continual learning and growth, not just in our specialist areas but in all aspects of our roles. This training perfectly supports our values of collective perspective and valuing human connection in what can otherwise be a tech and data-driven industry.

Feedback from our team has been fantastic. One participant said, “The training was a game-changer! I’m now more aware of subtle biases and ready to counteract them.” Another said, “Emma’s insights were invaluable. I feel equipped to conduct truly fair and inclusive interviews.”

Our Head of Talent, Gemma Simmons, summed it up perfectly: “At ClearRoute, we aim to make everyone feel valued and respected. This training is crucial for ensuring our interviews are inclusive and fair. It’s about more than just ticking a box; it’s about giving every candidate a genuine chance.”

This training session is a big step forward in our mission to build an exceptional, diverse team. To be the best problem solvers, we need different perspectives to not only overcome obstacles, but in fact recognise, identify and unlock as many opportunities as possible. We’re excited to continue this journey toward greater inclusivity and equity across our growing global offices, in a bid to also provide our clients with the most knowledgeable and approachable contacts and support.

We’d like to extend our thanks to Emma for helping us continue to drive forward to build better, long-lasting human connections.  In short, it’s another step in our bid to truly ‘live for live’, working in the moment to recruit the right talented individuals to bring innovation, creativity and passion to our business, irrespective of their background and status.
