Why SHOUT?

Working in a high pressure, high talent, and tech-based environment can put strain on mental wellbeing.  From spending long periods of time at a screen to working intermittently in silo.

SHOUT is a 24/7 anonymous text helpline to help individuals in crisis reach out for support when they most need it. Those in need can text ‘SHOUT’ to 85258 to receive confidential support via text message from a trained volunteer.

By utilising SMS as a way to interact, those in need can reach out at any time of day or night, using a platform that feels familiar, even in times of crisis. The text service is confidential, inclusive and free to anyone that uses it. What’s more, the SHOUT website also offers a wealth of resources and tips to support those who are feeling anxious, low, stressed or overwhelmed.

With an estimated 2 in 5 tech workers stating they felt at risk of a burnout, we couldn’t sit back and not acknowledge a problem sweeping across our sector. We all recognise that their services could prove vital to any one of us. Some of our own employees are SHOUT volunteers, and through their efforts, we have learned more about this charity and feel strongly that it deserves wider recognition.

The Hackathon

As part of our ongoing partnership with Paul Di Resta, the WEC season is reaching its flagship race in Le Mans on June 10-11 – and to mark the occasion, we’ll be going toe to toe with him in our own endurance race.

Paul will face his own moments of high pressure, swift decision making and mental challenges during the world-famous race, putting a similar strain on his brain that our Hackathon participants are looking to replicate with their own endurance race. Paul, like everyone at ClearRoute, will be backed by a team providing vital support to help him perform at his best.

We’ve enlisted some of our incredible team to overcome a series of challenges, working around the clock for 24 hours to create a solution linked directly to helping those in crisis.

The Hackathon will be a sponsored event, and ClearRoute will match any funds raised to the value of £2500, which will all go directly to the charity. We’ll also be working closely with SHOUT in the build up to the big day (and night!) to determine how our services could be beneficial to them.

“This is the start of something special for ClearRoute, as we want to champion mental wellbeing across our company and the wider industry.

If we want to ensure our team performs at their best, we need to give them the tools and support they need. Everyone has an off day, but it’s when the off-days outweigh the good ones that charities like SHOUT are vital. The Hackathon has got everyone really engaged, excited and will be the first of many initiatives to where we ALL come together, with our relevant skills and interests, to support each other as a team.”
